“TutorPalooza” IS HERE!

Your school is invited to participate in an extremely special and important project involving peer tutors. The NTA directs the Peer Tutoring Initiative as a coordinated response to the challenges of "No Child Left Behind," (NCLB) and to support the global advancement of Peer Tutoring. The NTA, established in 1992 and with an international membership of over 5,500, defines peer tutoring as trained student tutors assisting other students who are within close proximity of the tutor's grade and age. The research clearly demonstrates that Peer Tutoring is academically effective and costs significantly less to oversee than private practice or other professionally driven tutoring programs.
"TutorPalooza," our first Peer Tutoring Initiative event, will train and certify 1,000+ peer tutors (Level I - Basic) in a single day on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at Wheeling High School in Wheeling, IL.  As the leading national organization training professional and peer tutors, the NTA is uniquely qualified to conduct this event. TutorPalooza will take place in conjunction with the celebration of National Tutoring Week, October 8-12, 2007. (Not located near this site? See below!)

Related activities and features include:

• A national, pre-event peer tutoring essay contest for publication and scholarships
  
• Public recognition of exemplary peer tutoring programs
  
• Training peer tutors in groups of forty or smaller by certified professional tutors, workbooks included
  
• Providing peer tutor program coordinator support training at the same time and location
  
• Every participating peer tutor will receive a one year membership in the NTA and their Level I Basic certification.

Your responsibility is threefold:
1. Reserve the number of slots your require for your peer tutors no later than September 1, 2007. Please be considerate of other schools and do not reserve more slots than you think you will actually use as we have a limited number of slots available.

2. There is no charge for this training event; however, your school will be responsible for transportation of the students to and from the training site. Each student will need a pen or pencil. All other materials, meals and snacks will be provided.

3. No later than September 26, 2007, e-mail the names of your tutors to the NTA office (www.ntatutor@aol.com) so that the membership and certification documents can be prepared in advance of the event.

This is an extremely important initiative and we certainly hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to provide free NTA training and certification for your peer tutors!
